Developing for Apple just makes sense

Android is certainly on the move there is no doubt about that. This has opened conversations everywhere about the “should” or “shouldn’t we” from our client base. However, from our point of view, we just are not there yet. This is certainly open to change at any point but recently Mashable posted a graph that we think succinctly describes a core issue when comparing Apple to Android. This graph shows that while we have all noticed the increase in Android traffic, we can see that their user base can’t seem to agree on which operating system to use. From

A candid letter to AT&T

To whom it may concern (sorry, it clearly does not concern anyone over there, but for giggles, let’s continue) I am the proud owner of an iPhone. I have actually owned three of them. Truth be told, this could be the single most interesting and useful pieces of technology I have ever owned bar none. I can literally do things on this phone that were previously unimaginable. My somewhat complicated and fast-paced life has been made exponentially more convenient by the advent of this wondrous little machine. The single most irritating *feature* of this device is, you guessed it,

Android on the move

The debate rages on iPhone vs Droid vs Blackberry; this time with a few interesting numbers to back them up. According to NetworkWorld’s recent article Android is on the rise while the iPhone seems to have leveled off, and, not surprisingly, Blackberry continues to be the business leader. That being said however, Android takes the crown for growth this quarter by far. The article continues by stating that the biggest casualty of this success was by far Microsoft. This is congruent with a recent trip to a client I took where we took a quick look at their Google

iAd: hmm…

One thing I have enjoyed quite a bit thus far on my iPhone is the overall lack of advertising. Sure, a few apps have it but, for the most part, it is missing from the mix; until now. As with many issues that face us on the device, this one too splits me down the middle. In this corner we have the fact that this device is an integral part of our business. We make these apps for clients who, in turn, require a profit in order to continue on. While some companies have made quite a splash selling

New iPad

Well hello there iPad. Funny enough, the process was not at all what it was imagined to be. Our arrival at the store at 9:30 was already a half hour past the opening so I was for sure anticipating a line around the corner. To my surprise the line was expeditiously moving along and we were hurried in and as though they knew I was coming (ok, they knew) I had mine in hand in moments. I even scored a free cup of coffee thanks to the Apple staff. As with every Apple product I have ever purchased I

EPUB and our new problem

So Apple loves EPUB, we are not so sure. Apple loves EPUB evidently as they chose it for their book reading software. It is quite “global” insofar as it is understood by many devices and by many publishers which makes this quite the format moving forward. However, it does not address the simple fact that as developers for these devices we should be able to make the next generation of books and not just wonky re-creations of books on the iPad. We are now faced with a dilemma; make cool books as apps or make great ebooks that don’t
