Kno tablet for education – double sided

In what only seems natural as the next evolution of tablet design, a company Kno  is releasing a double-sided tablet hopefully by the end of the year. This tablet is run on a Linux-based operating system and is geared specifically to the educational consumer. Of specific interest is a desktop (when oh when will we get one for the iPad?), a Flash-enabled browser (although let’s face it, this is less and less of a concern for many clients), and a host of academic-specific features, and of course a two screen display for note taking while reading, or, as students

Giving iPad a run for their money

It used to be simple really. The world was flat, the compact disc was as convenient as it could ever get, computers were beige, and generally, things were good enough. Somewhere along the road though progress went into overdrive and the awe-inspiring moments when you first see a truly remarkable technology were few and far between. Now, they are happening almost daily. This gem though really got us going over here. The only problem is I just had an ah-ha moment with the iPad not but a few months ago. I could not even imagine someone could re-invent the

New iPad features

The new iPad rumor mill is firing up with some alleged confirmed features already. One is a slightly smaller screen (7 inches) and full conference capabilities. Mixed reviews on what that means though. Let’s tackle the latter first. This feature should have been on the first iPad. It was already in production with the new iPhone and would have made this product light years ahead of the pack instead of just a few hundred thousand miles ahead. Missed opportunity really but keeping in mind that we run on pure consumerism, clipping off a feature sure to entice many and

How many me-too’s will there be?

Apple’s iPad has no doubt been a home run for them. To be honest though, who cares about Apple? The real winner is us; all of us. Countless clients of ours, friends, and even people we look at a little funny, have told us that they love their iPad. Most use it a good chunk of the day as a primary communication tool. I was even shocked to see that I know more than a few folks that actually pay for the data plan so that they can use this everywhere. That being said now everyone wants in on

Mobile retail sales to soar

As the iPhone, iPad, and Android devices continue their evolution forward we are now starting to what that means to a variety of folks. As we recently saw mobile traffic is taking off. This is no longer in question. More and more of our clients are reporting large spikes in iPad traffic to their web sites. While not enough yet to make everyone take action, the smart ones have moved past head scratching and onto planning. Why? Metrics. ABI Research has posted recently that an estimated $2.2 billion in hard goods will be purchased from a mobile device by

IBM Watson

While it is duly noted that this blog is expressly about iPhone and iPad, well, I just don’t care on this one. As with every rule, rules must occasionally be broken for the benefit of all involved. This is one of those times. In my humble opinion there have been a handful of times in my life that left me with only one thought, “this changes everything”. Yes, the day I first saw an iPhone was one of those but this, dare I say it, may just be bigger. IBM has traversed the convoluted seas of artificial intelligence and

The art of the iPad

In the midst of all the “its just a big iPod touch” and “why are they killing Flash” and all of the other various issues surrounding iPad we are finally starting to see that for the true craft person, arguments mean nothing, the work says it all. I recently came across an article (that can be seen here) that highlighted a few interesting uses of the iPad. As professionals tasked with inventing things to do with this device for our customers I am constantly smiling at that which folks create using this really big iPod touch. (that was a
