iPad and Education

The iPad is new. The iPad is fun. The iPad is confused; at least for now. To clarify, the machine itself is not confused, that would be insane. The people using it are confused. Steve and his pack of geniuses over at Apple have traditionally been whizzes at defining a need and filling it with some super sexy gadget that we all eventually have 5 of in the in closet in a few years. With the iPad though it has been a little different. This time they gave us the super sexy gadget and said “here are a few

Flash may not be the best thing since sliced bread

Apple seems to be getting all of the press lately about its anti-Flash ranting. I am sure this is fantastic for everyone else complaining about some of the inherent issues at hand here. If you look a little closer though you can see that Apple is not the only one thinking it may be time to take a look at another technology. While they certainly seem to have pushed the first domino over, many others are falling in line fast. On the top of my list of people to watch in this arena are YouTube. If you have Chrome

If you find an iPhone, return it; or else

As if the state of California did not have more pressing concerns they are now “investigating” the guy who found the iPhone prototype in a bar to determine if he indeed did something wrong. Seriously? The state is broke and they are spending money on launching an investigation about this? The news cites a California law (found here) that basically says that if you find something, know who owns it, and use it for yourself, you are doing something wrong. California, seriously? First, and foremost, let’s talk about the distinct possibility that Apple did this intentionally. Note: I don’t

iAd: hmm…

One thing I have enjoyed quite a bit thus far on my iPhone is the overall lack of advertising. Sure, a few apps have it but, for the most part, it is missing from the mix; until now. As with many issues that face us on the device, this one too splits me down the middle. In this corner we have the fact that this device is an integral part of our business. We make these apps for clients who, in turn, require a profit in order to continue on. While some companies have made quite a splash selling

Apple’s anti-Flash rage continues

In case you were asleep for the last few weeks Apple is at it again crafting our future. Like our parents before us, they are deciding what is best for us. For those who actually missed this I am of course referring to the now infamous “3.3.1”. It reads as follows: 3.3.1 — Applications may only use Documented APIs in the manner prescribed by Apple and must not use or call any private APIs. Applications must be originally written in Objective-C, C, C++, or JavaScript as executed by the iPhone OS WebKit engine, and only code written in C,

New iPad

Well hello there iPad. Funny enough, the process was not at all what it was imagined to be. Our arrival at the store at 9:30 was already a half hour past the opening so I was for sure anticipating a line around the corner. To my surprise the line was expeditiously moving along and we were hurried in and as though they knew I was coming (ok, they knew) I had mine in hand in moments. I even scored a free cup of coffee thanks to the Apple staff. As with every Apple product I have ever purchased I
