There is a plethora of CES related news out there but the top line stuff that is of extreme interest is pretty simple. One, tablets. Oh my goodness tablets. Literally everywhere. Seems as though 2011 will no doubt be a year of tremendous technological growth. As mentioned before, the tablet market is on fire, Apple can’t sell enough iPhones, and the Android market is continuing their amazing growth across multiple carriers. What’s left? The merger of internet and TV. Apple has had a hat in the ring here for a while and we are now seeing the first signs that it is officially in motion. This holiday season Apple’s Apple TV sales crested a million units. This is significant in what it says about how people are using their devices.

AT&T is buying more bandwidth

So after many, many, many complaints from literally everyone we have ever met who owns an iPhone there may be a light at the end of the tunnel; especially if you live in urban areas. AT&T is set to purchase a fair chunk of extra bandwidth from Qualcomm. This could mean that we won’t drop calls while standing in Rockefeller Center in the middle of Manhattan. Ergonomic keyboard for iPhone

Well, not exactly but we applaud their efforts. This keyboard takes me back to college days where many students were seen sporting these for real. Gigantic keyboards that had all types of odd shapes and sizes. I never quite got used to them but I love the fact that someone did this on a keyboard. Still clearly does not solve any real ergonomic issues but you can change the color and it is a 3D keyboard so vastly sexier than the standard Apple one.

RIM under $500

Interesting to see that RIM is going to release its new Playbook tablet early 2011 for under $500. Seems that the new way to be is to beat Apple on price. Even more curious is to see what happens with the iPad. Does Apple drop that too? Regardless of what happens on price, if the Bold is any indication of what Blackberry does to save itself, then no one is holding their breath on the new tablet. Could we eat our words? Absolutely. We shall see.

Netfilx delays release of its Android app

Due to security concerns and fragmentation of the market, Netflix has opted to postpone the release of its Android app until next year. This fear is something discussed here in prior posts as well; reliability of a marketplace with the current hurdles in place for Android. While stats are changing constantly, currently 22.9% of the Android phones don’t have a 2x OS on the phone. Past that, the remaining phones are split roughly evenly between 2.1 and 2.2; slanting by about 4% towards the 2.1. From a development point of view this can be frustrating. To quote them directly:
