iPad adoption: fastest in history

For the scores of folks out there who desperately want Apple to fall on their faces with the iPad, history books will tell a different story. According to Bernstein Research, the iPad enjoys the fastest adoption rate in electronics history; including the iPhone and the DVD player. This stratospheric success has been the driving force for everyone else to race to second place. That all being said, it is going to be intriguing to see what Apple does next to parlay their iPad success into remaining first in the market once competition opens up. It is going to be

Interesting developer stats

From time to time we like to see how the world is progressing. Let’s examine these two graphics: Although we featured this in the last post I thought it was so compelling that we should dedicate a single post to it. Again, thanks to VisionMobile (original article found here) we have some new insight as to just how dramatic this whole mobile transformation really is. First, take a look at the amount of developers involved with each. Android is way out in front followed by iPhone; neither of which were really around just a few years ago. Next, not

New RIM tablet

RIM gave a demo today of their newest attempt to stay relevant in the space; the PlayBook Tablet. Take a look here: This is their soon-to-be tablet that will feature a new operating system that they have not released before. Oddly enough, they actually bought a company who makes another OS all together called QNX. To us, releasing a tablet, late, in a market where you have just watched your competition speed past you like a Road Runner cartoon, then to feature an OS not your own signals major trouble. While I completely understand their need to replace the

Holiday Inn tests iPhone hotel keys

Now we are talking. This is a truly useful piece of functionality. Holiday Inn is testing in two locations (Chicago and Houston) their new ability to unlock your hotel room door with your iPhone. I am thinking about taking a trip to Houston or Chicago just to play with it. Aside from the obvious cool factor involved here, this is yet another baby step towards a fully integrated mobile-driven world. At this point the technology exists, we just need someone to actually do it. I love this idea because it accomplishes two primary goals for me. One, I no

Apple to take 21% of mobile advertising revenue

Since its inception, the folks over at Apple have been, to say the least, optimistic about how supersonic iAd was going to be. To say they were incorrect would be accurate. That being said, a few people have predicted substantial growth anyway. According to the IAD Apple will rocket from 0% to 21% of the mobile advertising dollars. This shift will drop Google from its current 27% to be tied up with Apple at 21%. Bringing up the rear will be Microsoft at 7%, down from 10%. While it is certainly not the 50% + that Mr. Jobs prophesied,

AT&T: We don’t really care

It is no secret that iPhone users’ biggest complaint is the service. Almost all of the time actually. My experience has been so bad that I suppose I just presumed the entire population of iPhone users felt the same. (exaggerated of course, but I thought at least the majority). Turns out I was off; way off. According to a recent poll by Credit Suisse only 23% of current iPhone users would switch if given Verizon as an option. While less than expected, perhaps a few of them will change their minds after hearing their latest statements. It actually came

New iPad features

The new iPad rumor mill is firing up with some alleged confirmed features already. One is a slightly smaller screen (7 inches) and full conference capabilities. Mixed reviews on what that means though. Let’s tackle the latter first. This feature should have been on the first iPad. It was already in production with the new iPhone and would have made this product light years ahead of the pack instead of just a few hundred thousand miles ahead. Missed opportunity really but keeping in mind that we run on pure consumerism, clipping off a feature sure to entice many and
